What is a MEME? I had no idea. This is a foreign word to me, so I had to look it up. First of all, it's supposed to be pronounced like "Meem" but apparently a lot of people say it "Mem-may" (the mem like mem-ory). The definition goes something like this: A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. It comes originally from the Greek word "mimema" which means "something imitated."
So, on with the fun. I was tagged by April, who isn't afraid to laugh till she snorts, and you should check out her blog, Thoughts in My Tumuluous Brain.
The Rules:
1. Link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry.
Here we go, folks:
Unimportant Thing #1: I was up until past 1am last night watching Season 2 of the TV show HOUSE on DVD.
My husband and I recently started watching this show, and we're totally obsessed. I don't watch much TV, but I have a few shows I DVR. I don't normally stay up so late, but my hubby talked me into it. I finally had to give in and go to sleep mid-episode. BTW, I have a huge crush on Hugh Laurie's character in this show, Dr. Greg House. If you've never seen this show, go rent Season 1! It's hilarious, insightful, maddening, dramatic, and chock full of medical speak.
Unimportant Thing #2: I ended up having a little party in the closet around 4am.
After falling asleep after 1am sometime, I was jerked out of a deep sleep when our town tornado sirens went off at 4am. (Do the math, that's less then three hours of sleep people!) I'm up and out of bed with a speed that rivals my friend Josh in high school (he ran around a 4 minute mile people!). We're waking the boys and the dog and all hurrying into the master closet (which is larger than the entire apartment we lived in for five years previous to this recent move). Our power is out, so this is all done in the dark.
Adrenaline is rushing through my system. I am picturing a torndao bearing down on our house at any moment in the dark...it sounded like armageddon outside with constant, nonstop, shock and awe thunder and lightning. You know how you're supposed to count between the lightening and thunder to see how far apart they are? No counting in between, folks. The storm was on top of us.
It was a fast moving storm though, and within 30 minutes or so, it was gone and we all headed back to bed, which leads us to...
Unimportant Thing #3: Pokemon were in my bed last night, and I almost committed murder on an electrical object this morning.
The kids were scared and wanted to stay in my room. So, MY bed was once again occupied by two kids, a large yellow lab, myself and the hubby. I have proof...see this pillow that took up squatter's rights between me and hubby?
If you've been living under a rock for the last 10 years or so, that's Pikachu and other Pokemon. This is getting close to 5am now. Remember, I fell asleep originally around 1am, woke up at 4am, and now I need to wake up at 6:30am...However, due to the power outage and batteries gone bad, my alarm clock doesn't go off. When I wake up well after 7AM, I feel like taking a hammer and doing this:
Unimportant Thing #4: I injure myself.
As I rush around the house trying to get kids get dressed, I managed to step onto an entire Greek mythology unit on the floor outside the kids' rooms. Monsters, Gods and Heros were battling it out epically through the night, apparently. My foot really, really hurt. We won't mentioned the words I spewed at this point.
Unimportant Thing #5: When in rush, it is inevitable that I will see a lot of things that need to be done and start to feel totally overwhelmed.
I head to the kitchen to make the kids lunches. I avoid looking at my sink, which is full of dishes from the night before. Some nights I can do dishes before bed...some nights I can't. I'm ashamed to show you my sink but here it is:
I finally get the kids in the car and start backing out the driveway, when I realize all my neighbors have their trash and recycling bins out on the street. Oh, dagnabit. It's trash day! I have to run back in the garage to bring out our bins. We're starting to run even more behind!
Unimportant Thing #6: Annie is desperate to go with me in the morning to drop off the boys at school, and she likes to surprise me.
When Annie, our sweet, sweet lab, sees us putting on shoes and jackets, she knows a car ride is in the works. She starts following us around, giving us the big, sad puppy eyes. If we use the word "GO" she goes wild! She starts whining and jumping around and running through the house. I can't say no to that, so I get her leash, which has her even more excited, because now she knows she's scored a ride in the car, one of her favorite things. Here's the leash that leads to her excitement:
and here's the surprise I found when I returned home to do dishes and clean up menacing Greek figures on the floor. Annie threw up next to her bed. Lovely. Guess who will be cleaning this up after she does dishes?
So, there you have it. My six unimportant things with a twist (in story-form, from my morning). I've just completed my first MEME. Who should I tag? I bet anyone I tag has probably done this before, so I apologize in advance. And, if you don't end up completing this meme, it won't hurt my feelings (although, this is my first one ever and my first tagging ever, so no pressure, guys!)
I TAG:
1. Tearese, with the blog Trees with Leaves, has some cute kids, really knows how to draw and isn't your average shoe nut, but has some really colorful footwear!
2. Nancy, at the blog Losing Our Shirts, Keeping the Farm, lives on a pre-civil war farm, raises Icelandic sheep and is currently running a sheep maternity ward in anticipation of "Lamb-a-palooza" and suffering from "sheep apnea."
3. Andrea, with Miles Away, has five kids, lives in Germany, and is surrounded by houses with lace-wanna be curtains.
4. Kat, at Sunshine and Lemonade, is away on a cruise right now, but she teaches Latin (one of my favorite subjects), has an amazing backyard with woods and a creek, reads voraciously and didn't realize that getting married meant softball playing on request.
5. Susan, with Short on Words, has three boys, lives in a beautiful part of the country, is a really cheap date and an incredible photographer. I lust after her photos.
6. Jeff, at A Word in Edgewise, torments cats by making loud noises at them, mumbles when he's angry, uses every pan in the house when he cooks, and has a wicked sense of humor.
