Black Eye Suzie Art Dolls

I just love Black Eye Suzie art dolls. They are so expressive and delicate. The one pictured has to be my favorite, with her little parasol and pensive look. She also has a great blog. Some very interesting posts on her actually constructing her dolls. Her doll construction fascinates me. There head, hands and feet are individually sculpted from paperclay (no molds). Some of her earlier bodies were made of fiberfill and cotton fabric over a wire armature. Lately they look like paper clay forms strung together with ball joints. Their faces are hand-painted with water colours, with handmade eyes. Such pretty little elegant creatures.

Louise Black Apparel

And of course you can't talk about Ms. Black without talking about her clothes as well. Here are a few of my favorites. You have to take a look at her Etsy shop. It's just full of goodies!

Louise Black Accessories

One of my favorite designers on the planet would have to be none other that Louise Black. Her style is just so much fun. I dearly love the 1920's and '30s so here is a little homage to her accessories line. Her website is called dollflesh.com.

Cyber Steampunk ?

Lately I've been seeing the term Cyber Steampunk bandied about. It seems to be a mixture of Cyber punk, and a Steampunk vibe. It edges more on the "Weird West" sub-genre, but not as edgy as Diesel Punk. Kind of a softer Mad Max frontier feel. I'm not sure it's a true sub-genre yet, but it's out there enough to catch my notice. Here are a few examples...

Airship Captain or Airship Pirate

As defined by Suite101 an Airship Captain or Airship Pirate ... "combines the elements of flamboyant no-rules world of piracy, with the steampunk concept of retro-futuristic technology. Sailing about in dirigibles, airship pirates combine Victorian, pirate and mechanical design in their clothing and accessories. " Here are a few of my favorite examples.

Dark Alice in Wonderland

With the re-release of Alice in Wonderland this year it seems EVERYONE wanted to be Alice for Halloween. Here are some of the best ones I found this year. Granted most of them look NOTHING like what most people think of when they hear Alice in Wonderland, but I really like the direction they went with them.

Cyber Geisha

Cyber Geisha? The term doesn't actually mean anything. It was coined by my friends and I a few years ago. I just really like the idea it evokes in my head. A little of Steampunk Firefly-ness, a lot of Japanese culture, and a dash of apocalyptic space-age future. So here is a few pictures to get the idea across.
