The Mysterous Case of the Missing Cereal

A few years back, my dad encountered a mystery in his home.
He lived alone in a condo, on the 13th floor, in downtown Austin.

And every morning, he woke up to find that someone had eaten his cereal.

He would find a bowl sitting on the counter,
and there would be an empty cereal box and a carton of milk next to it.

He was baffled, but totally convinced someone was breaking in to eat his cereal every night.

The voice of reason said NO, this can't be so.  It doesn't make sense.

And then we realized, he was on the sleeping pill Ambien...
which causes people to sometimes sleep walk.
and sleep drive.
and sleep eat.

"nocturnal eating may be a side effect of the popular sleep medication, Ambien."

So, he solved his mystery.
He was his own culprit.

And he stopped taking Ambien.

Giveaway ends Tuesday, January 6th at midnight, U.S. central time.

Now, on to today's post.

I've shared my boys' artwork with you before.

And I've made you try to guess the story behind the art.

They're wonderfully creative and scary at the same time.

Well, lately, my older son has been doodling on himself.

I've started hiding the markers.

And then Remy, my younger son, created something very interesting with his Legos.

Very mysterious. Or not.

What do you think?

What is Remy's Lego creation?
Give me your best guess.

Did you ever doodle on your hands or arms or legs when you were younger?
What shapes or designs or words did you doodle?

Ttomorrow I have a very special interview post
about a very special birthday girl
that so many of us in the blogosphere just adore.

Here's a hint.

She takes photos of calf nuts.

Why are there flowers in their pants?

My mother recently learned a lot about her family roots.
Someone traced them from Alabama back to Scotland in the 1600s.
How cool is that?

She also was given a lot of old, old, old family photos to scan and preserve.

We came across one that completely boggled our minds.

The man on the left is my great-great-grandfather, and I have no idea what he's doing.

So, I've decided to call on you guys to help me out.
What's going on in this photo?
I'm at a total loss.
It's so cool, but completely confusing.

Answers to the Eye Feast

Well, we don't really have a clear winner this week.
So many people got two or kind of three right, that there will be no official winner!

A ton of you made me laugh though.

GREAT guesses!!

Here are the answers:

It did look a lot like a shower curtain, but it wasn't.

It was a glass of gin and tonic.

The next one was NOT a sexy nightie, wrapping paper or dehydrated salsa but instead

a large fake ruby

The guesses for this one had me laughing so hard.
It wasn't maggots or throw up
or a grasshoppers head or termites or a bee's ass.

It was

An upside down starfish

an abalone shell

a decorative hand towel

Thank you SO MUCH, everyone, for playing!! You guys ROCK!

Here we go again!

It's time for you to guess, and me to sit back and laugh silly at your attempts.

Give me your best shot.
Make me laugh.
PLEASE!

Are these too easy or too hard?

Anwers Revealed - Mystery Photos

The guesses today were fabulous!

I really love reading everything you guys wrote in the comments.

The person who got the most right, with five correct items, is Elaine!

Elaine is our grand winner!

The answers that made me laugh the most, but weren't correct, go to Giggle & Cristin!

Surprisingly, the one that stumped a lot of you
and had some very creative guesses was the first photo.

It's not my husband's feather boa (Cristin), or a shower cap from 1964 (Hot Tub Lizzy).
It's not a sponge (lots of you) or macaroni with maggots (Jyl)!
It's definitely NOT Sponge Bob's pubic hair (Giggle!).
gross.

It is just a big sun flower, zoomed in really closely.

No one guessed this one, except Elaine! It was hard, I know.
That's sand art inside a bottle.

Another hard one, sorry.
It's not Beetle Juice's socks with a hole in it (Giggle).
It's a wooden Mexican carving creature.
I don't even know what to call it.

This next one is definitely NOT a sex toy.
Dirty minds, readers!!

It's a toddler sippy cup!

I thought this would be a hard one, but nope, almost everyone got it.

And most of you got this one as well.

Great job!
Thank you so much for playing!
I had some much needed laughter and enjoyed hearing from you all!

Here we go again.

Who's got an eye for detail?
Who's got a dirty mind?
Who can make me laugh the hardest?

Are these too easy or too hard?

Bring it on!

Answers will be posted later this evening.

Revealed - mystery photos

Cristin won funniest comment
(and now everyone knows I'm blogging from inside an psychiatric hospital)
and Susan won for being the first to get the most correct.

Great job everyone, thanks for taking the time to play, and for making me laugh!!

I think EVERYONE got this one correct.

There were some very creative ones for this...like Barbie on her knees!
But, I was so proud of you guys who remembered my Wisconsin cow udder mug.

I think Valarie was the first to guess this one right!

This was the hardest. Susan was the first to guess it was one of our Home Depot projects,
and Jennifer and Sandi were the first to guess it was a sail!!

Most of you guessed this one correctly as well. Cactus

This is an old flour mill in our downtown.
Most of you guessed it was Starbucks.
or a castle. or a library. or a school. or a psych ward.
