Five Questions

A few months ago I didn't even know what a meme was and now here I am participating in one.

Eleanor, whose enchanting Thatchwick Cottage blog I follow for the delightful look at life in South Africa ('just my resident ibis', one picture is labeled), invited her readers to answer five questions on their own blogs -- and then to invite their readers to do the same. So here goes.

Eleanor's first question: How did you launch a successful writing career at this stage in your life?

Well, first of all, if one defines success in terms of monetary rewards, I must say that the success has been only modest. But I feel successful in that I'm on my third two-book contract with a major publisher and have gotten some nice critical notice.

As to how . . . in 2000, on a whim, I took a class called 'Writing Fiction That Sells' (6 meetings) at a branch of a local community college and was challenged to begin a novel. When at the end of the class, the instructor told me that I didn't 'have the passion it takes to write a novel,' I decided to prove him wrong.

One thing led to another, as so often happens, and in 2003, when I was sixty, I signed a contract with Bantam Dell. (I guess I found that passion somewhere.)

A nice thing about starting at this stage in my life is that my children are grown, my life is reasonably serene, and I have a lot of experiences to draw on. The down side is that white-haired woman with the double chin who shows up in my publicity photos.

Question two: What is the history behind your lovely farm and what brought you and your family there?

Our western North Carolina farm was owned by Clifford and Louise Freeman who bought it from Louise's parents. It probably doesn't date back, as a farm, much more that 150 years -- this steep area was settled only after all the nice bottom land was taken.

My husband and I were infected by the back-to-the-land urge in the early seventies and, despite our middle-class suburban upbringing in Florida, on a whim, we threw caution to the winds and decided to become farmers in North Carolina. We were young and foolish and I've never regretted it. (This 'on a whim' thing seems to be something of a leitmotif for my life . . .)

Question three: What brings you the greatest self-fulfillment in your life?

Ahh . . . see one and two is the short answer.

The longer answer is that while becoming a published author was incredibly gratifying to an old English major like myself, the farm, though still a work in progress, is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

Having our sons and their significant others living here, having family and friends who regard the farm as a place of comfort and refuge, knowing that over the past thirty-some years we've added to the beauty and utility of the land -- all of that feels like fulfillment to me.

Question four: Won't you describe your happiest childhood memory?

I can't pick one . . . my brother and I on either side of my grandfather as he read to us from The Hollow Tree and Deep Woods Book . . . being in my hideout under a bush on the first day of summer vacation with a stack of new books to read . . . the cooing of doves and smell of fresh-cut grass on a summer morning and nothing whatsoever to do . . .

Question five: If you were given an airticket to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I'd be tempted to visit South Africa which, judging from Eleanor's pictures is full of the most fascinating things. Or I might go back to England (above in the Cotswolds) for a fourth visit -- I do love that place. Or I might be adventurous and go to New Zealand -- a country that captured my imagination first when I read Elizabeth Goudge's Green Dolphin Street and secondly when I learned that The Lord of the Rings was filmed there.

Posted by Picasa
So those are my answers to Eleanor's questions. If any of you would like to play, leave a comment asking to be interviewed and I'll send you some questions of my own -- which you can then post on your own blog or in the comments or wherever pleases you. And you, in turn, can offer to interview others.

Kind of fun, I think.

Someone started a rumor about me.

Monogram Chick gave me an award.

Here are the rules.......

1. Choose...blah, blah, blah...brilliant in content or design

2. Show the...blah,blah, blah...can keep the nifty icon.

3. List at least 10 honest things about yourself

***************************

1. From a young age, I've had a fake name picked out in case I need to go into hiding. Does this make me paranoid?

2. When I was a teenager, I threw up on someone...in a rather awkward situation. Or should I saw a compromising situation? That's all I'm sayin'. Gingela knows the truth, as I confessed in her comments. She is NEVER allowed to tell what happened. (Ok, I just read her comment section where I confessed and she had a million comments. I'm so embarrassed!)

3. I spent most of my second pregnancy on bed rest. It was torture.

4. I've been inside a psychiatric hospital. But not as a patient.

5. I ordered beautiful earrings from Mama Dawg's Light of Her Life (her adorable ten year old).

6. I've fallen through a glass door before and severed most of the tendons in my right hand. I went through surgery and rehab and can now use that hand again. It has a big scar that's mostly faded now.

7. I work part time as a blog contributor for UpTake. I'm trying to make my boring attraction posts over there more exciting! Want to read about Texas' most famous whorehouse? Or read ten reaons why you shouldn't move to Austin? I love extra comments over there if you have the time.

Vacations

8. In high school, I took an after-school photography course, and we went on a field trip to a junk yard. It was so cool. Normally I would insert a crazy, half-true story here, but I'm trying to stay honest, so I won't. Darn rules.

9. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life was tell my parents I was pregnant. I was nineteen and totally freaked out.

10. In my profile picture, I'm wearing a pink cowgirl hat. When I was in high school I participated in rodeos, and at the Houston Rodeo one year, as I was riding barrels, the hat flew off into the crowd. The person who caught it found me afterward to return it, and you'll never guess who it was?! It was Brad Pitt. OK, I'm lying. I have a hard time telling the truth when I write. I'm a writer. I lie for a living. I can't help it...

Thanks for the award, Monogram Chick!

Worming my way through

It's no secret I love to read.
I read FAST and I read FURIOUSLY.
hehe
and I don't really do many memes anymore,
but I was tagged with a book one, so here we go:
The meme originated with A Striped Armchair.
but Veggie Mom tagged me with it.

A few Rules, follow them if you want or don't, no biggie:
  1. Tag 3-5 people, so the fun keeps going!
  2. Leave a comment at the original post at A Striped Armchair, so that Eva, the originator, can collect everyone’s answers.
  3. If you leave a comment and link back to Eva as the meme’s creator, she will enter you in a book giveaway contest! She has a whole shelf devoted to giveaway books that you’ll be able to choose from, or a BookMooch Point, if you prefer.
  4. Remember that this is all about enjoying books as physical objects, so feel free to describe the exact book you’re talking about, down to that warping from being dropped in the bath water…
  5. Make the meme more fun with visuals! Covers of the specific edition you’re talking about, photos of your bookshelves, etc.

So, here goes:

The books that’ve been on your shelves the longest.

Actually, I got rid of most of my books when we moved a year and a half ago. It was de-cluttering time. I didn't get rid of my Harry Potter books or some old school books, like Wheelock's Latin. I also have the Bible my grandmother gave me when I was younger.

A book that reminds you of something specific in your life

(a person, a place, a time, etc.).

The Nancy Drew series was the first large series that swept me away and impressed me big time. I wanted to BE Nancy Drew.

Then, the next series that amazed me, besides Harry Potter, was a vampire/mystery series by Laurell K. Hamilton about a vampire executioner/necromancer named Anita Blake. The first book was called Guilty Pleasures, and I fell in love.

"Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call her the Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a time when vampires are protected by law--as long as they don't get too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anita agrees--with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting--to help figure out who and why."

I had just had baby Remy, Donny was five, and we were temporarily living with my mother and stepfather in Austin because my husband was in Dallas in law school. I remember being up late in the night with newborn Remy, nursing and reading this scary but exciting new series.

The series is still being written but it's gone way too erotica. Overboard. Unfortunately.

A book you acquired in some interesting way

(gift, serendipity in a used bookstore, prize, etc.).

Most books I have bought or borrowed...

but, one time, when we were on a family vacation in Jamaica, I was up really early one morning, walking the beach as the sun came up, searching for shells to collect, when I noticed there was a bottle in the sand. It was a big bottle, wine bottle size, and corked. Inside the bottle was rolled up paper, a thick wad I had trouble getting out. But, when I did, I realized it was a printed manuscript of a Tennessee Williams play I'd never heard of!

Turns out it was an original by him that he'd never shared...I made millions, and this is a total lie.

The most recent addition to your shelves.

I'm heading out this weekend to buy two new books.

The company that just hired me this week recommended I read them: The Starbucks Experience and Raving Fans.

A book that’s been with you to the most places.

My little colorful, striped blank book/journal that I keep in my purse.

So, I can take notes, jot down ideas or funny conversations I overhear, story ideas, blog ideas, lists, you name it.

A bonus book that you want to talk about but doesn’t fit into the other questions.

My cousin is a famous author (well, he's my dad's first cousin, don't know what that makes him to me...). His name is James Lee Burke, he's a mystery writer, and one of his books, Heaven's Prisoners was made into a movie with Alec Baldwin as the main character.

And the three I tag for this meme?

What are you reading right now?
I need to know!

The 6th Picture

Nik from Exceptional Voyage tagged me for a meme.
She's a mom of two boys like I am and also married to her high school sweetheart, like I am.

So here are the instructions:

  • Go to your sixth picture folder then pick your sixth picture.

  • Pray that you remember the details.

  • Tag 5 others, leave a comment to let them know they've been tagged. (I'm not tagging anyone, sorry)

This photo was taken a couple of months ago while my inlaws were visiting,
a family photo for the annual Christmas card.
I cropped out the inlaws because I prefer to ask people before posting their photos online.
So, here is just me, Texas Homeboy and the boys.
It was pretty dark and a last minute idea, so we don't look our best, but here we are!
I like everyone's smiles.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!
We're busy with the boys' football and soccer games today.

What are your weekend plans?

You only thought you knew me...

Earlier this week I posted about my new Texas Word Tangle car decal
that I got from Monogram Chick.
I'm totally in love with it and with Monogram Chick's products.

Monogram Chick

And, when I found out she tagged me on her blog, I decided to participate.
So, here we go.

7 Weird/Random Facts About Me:

1. I read really fast. I think it's because I grew up on a ranch without TV and spent a lot of time reading.

2. I peed in the ruins at Pompeii, (you know, the city completely covered by a volcano eruption in Italy), because we were on a tour and couldn't find a bathroom. That's probably illegal or defacing history or something like that. But, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

3. I was involved in the theater when I was a child. I was an orphan in Annie and Greta, the youngest Von Trapp child in The Sound of Music.

4. I saw my first Shakespeare play in England in a huge park. It was A Midsummer's Night Dream, and it was completely magical.

5. I received my first massage and snow skied for the first time, all in the same week, when my family visited Canyon Ranch in Massachusetts when I was about 14 or so.

6. I saved my mom's purse from a thief in Mexico City when I was around seven years old.

7. In 5th grade I won the school science fair for making fossils, and I was the second fastest runner in the school. That may have been me in my prime. It's been all downhill since then.

and now I'm tagging some new friends:

1. Marlene - Country Girl on Chesapeake Bay

2. Jen - Steenky Bee

3. Jennifer & Sandi - Minnesota and Texas

4. Carrie - Life in the Slow Lane

5. Gingela5 - My Dogumentary

6. Justine - Justine's Froggy Bloggy

7. Scargosun

Ocho

Ok, I was tagged to do this meme by Cristin at Tiptoeing Through The Tulips. She has a wicked sense of humor, and I like her, so I decided to do this in her honor.

At first I took it very seriously and contemplated my answers over and over; were they intelligent answers, did they reflect me accurately, was I being honest and sincere, was that the best answer, etc.

Well, forget that crap (sorry). I'm going to have fun with this. It's a pictureless post (gasp, not possible for me!) so I'm going all out and letting the words hit the fan. hehe

Taggeroni, Taggalicious, Taggafantabulous!

My good friend Kat from Sunshine and Lemonade tagged me with this meme. It's only fair, because I've tagged her many times. So, here we go! And, I had to add photos to mine...I have to tell a story with pictures and words, it's just a compulsion.

What was I doing 10 years ago?

I had just turned 21 years old and was finally legal to drink. I'd been married for almost two years and had a baby. I was working in children very part time and staying at home with my little Donny the rest of the time. I only ended up working for one year before I made the decision to go back to school full time at the University of Texas.

Five Snacks I enjoy:

1. Fruit Smoothies I make at home with strawberry protein powder
2. Popcorn
3. Apple slices dipped in peanut butter
4. Raw carrots and cauliflower dipped in ranch dip
5. Sour cream and onion Pringles (bad, I know)

Five Things On My To-Do List Today:

I love making lists and crossing things off. I can get obsessive about it. Five things is just a small, small, TINY section from my To Do List:

1. Finish putting together teacher gifts.

2. Change air filters in the house.

3. Arrange for Donny's friend to come visit from Austin.

4. Finish packaging the Pinkalicious Swap stuff

5. Schedule Donny's orthodonic imaging.

Things I Would Do If I Were A Billionaire:

1. I'd buy a ranch, a huge ranch, in Texas.

2. I'd finish college (I only have a year left!) and have college funds for my kids.

3. I pay off all my own debt and my entire extended family's debts.

4. I'd donate to lots of charities and travel a LOT.

5. I'd buy an island and build a huge resort for all my family and friends to come visit.

Five Random Things:

1. That sticky ball is still hanging from our den ceiling.

2. I read constantly. I have a million books going all at once. I keep some in the bathroom, a couple in my purse, one in the car, and so on. I LOVE to read.

3. I studied Spanish and Latin in elementary, high school and college. I love languages. I can also understand and sort of speak a language my mother made up as a child. She spoke it to my older sisters when I was little, and I could never understand it. Now that I'm older, she taught it to me, so now I speak it and my kids have no idea what I'm saying. None of the men in our family know it, just the women.

4. My hair used to be white blonde and pretty straight, with slight waves, when I was younger...then it went darker and super, duper curly on me around my twenties! Very strange.

Destination Desktop

Ok, so this post is a test. I wanted to try Blogger's new option of making a new post and setting the time you want it to post. So, I'm making this post Friday night, and I planning for it to post (all on it's own!) early Saturday morning. Will it work? I'm very excited about this new feature.

Here is the picture on my computer desktop. Someone had a meme going around asking what your desktops looked like, so here is mine!! A year ago, for my 30th birthday, my mom took me to California and we explored and hiked the Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur area. It was amazing, and I had so much fun. I also took a million photos. I need to share more of them. But, for now, here is the one I see every day on my computer. I wish I could jump into this picture and enjoy myself. It's China Cove in Point Lobos Reserve in Carmel, California.

I'm working on planning a trip to take my boys to visit the area for a summer trip. I'm hoping I can work it out.

Anyway, look for another post from me later Saturday. This was just my experimental post.

I can say a lot in six words.

Carrie from The Gremlin Wrangler tagged me.

In the tag, you write your memoir in six words or a title or something like that. This is tough, and I could go so many different directions with this...

The Virgin Mary I am not.
(Despite the picture below.)

Carrie is also hosting a giveaway where she will be giving away one custom portrait in pencil of a loved one of yours. So, go check out her blog post and see the details to enter this contest!

Potbelly pigs, Miss Goody Twoshoes, a scar, Latin, a shotgun and floating in bed.

6 Random Facts About Me

The Rules:

1. Link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write 6 things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of the post by posting links to their blogsites.
5. Let them know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their site.
6. And let your tagger know when your entry is up.

I've been tagged by Giggle, the creator of the Adventures of Rat Girl to do this meme, so here we go!

1. I had a pot belly pig in when I was in high school. I really wanted a puppy, but for some reason my mom talked me into getting a pig. I resisted. She took me to see them. Once I saw their adorable little faces, I knew I was lost, and I had to get one. We adopted Kory.

He had a little harness we attatched to a leash, so he could go on walks. He loved to have his belly rubbed. He would sit for food, follow us for food, pretty much do anything for food. He also would have marathon peeing sessions...once on our couch!

Every night he slept in my bed, burrowing under the covers. He was sweet and adorable and a wonderful pet!

2. I have never smoked or tried illegal drugs of any kind. I have only drank alcohol a handful of times. In fact, this is the ONLY picture I can find of myself with a beer in my hand. This photo is from when I was seventeen and in Salamanca, Spain where the drinking age was more like 16, rather than 21. I was always the designated driver at parties in high school. I just don't like losing control, I think.

3. When I was 12, I ran through a sliding glass door in our pool house and cut open my right hand. I ended up severing three and half tendons, was rushed to the ER by my mom, and had to have surgery. I then had to wear a brace for a long time and go through physical therapy to get the use back of that hand. I had to write with my left hand for a while, which was a mess. However, the bright side is that when I did get full use of my right hand again, my handwriting was somehow a lot, lot nicer than before the accident. I still have a wavy scar that goes the entire width of my hand. It's faded now, but you can still see it.

4. I started taking Latin in fifth grade at my elementary school, and fell in love with it immediately. I took it in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade...and all of high school. (I also took Spanish during this time period) I even took some Latin in college. Now, I want to pass this along to my sons, so I am starting to teach them Latin at home with the Minimus books.

5. My dad taught me to shoot a gun when I was like 9 or 10. I've gone both deer hunting, quail hunting and skeet shooting with him. For those of you who don't know, skeet shooting is done on a practice range, where clay pidgeons (they don't look like birds though, just clay discs) come flying out and you try to shoot them. It's a fun way to practice!

6. Finally, growing up, I had a floatation bed. It's different from a water bed. It's less watery, because you have a mattress between you and the water part...so you just have a slight rocking/floating sensation, compared to a super mushy water bed. It was awesome. Our live-in used to rock me to bed at night by lightly pushing the bed...

So, there you go! Six random facts about me. I'm not sure who to tag...let's go with:

KP
Mama Bird
Tearese
Blondie
Jules
Valarie

And, if any of you don't want to do it, that's ok with me. I just feel obiligated to pass it along. :o) Enjoy!

Book, line and sinker

I've been tagged by Anita Loughrey to do a meme. I'm supposed to pick up the book nearest me, go to page 123, find the fifth sentence and then type and post the next three sentences after the fifth one. I think. It seemed slightly complicated!! Then I'm supposed to tag five people. fun fun, so here we go.

The nearest book to me is D'Aulaires' Book Of Greek Myths, a greek mythology book I had when I was younger, and one I bought for my kids. My 11 year old and I read it every night before bed until we finished it, and now he's doing a research paper on one of the gods for school. So, the book is next to the computer due to his research.

Now, on page 123 is a story about Athena (goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill, favorite daughter of Zeus). Here are the three sentences:

In disgust she (Athena) threw the flute down to earth and put a curse on it.

Marsyas, a satyr who was capering about in the Phrygian woods, found the flute and began to play on it. When he discovered he could play two melodies at the same time, he was wild with joy.
Ok, now that's taken care of. I tag:
Kat at Sunshine and Lemonade, because I bet she's reading something fun.
Crystal Chick at Mary Says...because she's so chatty.
Jules at Just Because because she gave me my first award.
VBF at Motivationless because she is a LOST fan and my only friend Down Under.
Kim at Poppin's Ponderings because I'm interested to know what she's reading.

The little things do matter...a LOT.

I've never been tagged before for a MEME because I'm relatively new to the blogosphere (only been here a few months). I previously made fun of them and mentioned they make me feel like a third grader playing tag and hoping to get picked. But, now that I've been chosen, I guess I have to participate. hehe

What is a MEME? I had no idea. This is a foreign word to me, so I had to look it up. First of all, it's supposed to be pronounced like "Meem" but apparently a lot of people say it "Mem-may" (the mem like mem-ory). The definition goes something like this: A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. It comes originally from the Greek word "mimema" which means "something imitated."

So, on with the fun. I was tagged by April, who isn't afraid to laugh till she snorts, and you should check out her blog, Thoughts in My Tumuluous Brain.

The Rules:

1. Link back to the person who tagged you.

2. Post these rules on your blog.

3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.

4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry.

Here we go, folks:

Unimportant Thing #1: I was up until past 1am last night watching Season 2 of the TV show HOUSE on DVD.

My husband and I recently started watching this show, and we're totally obsessed. I don't watch much TV, but I have a few shows I DVR. I don't normally stay up so late, but my hubby talked me into it. I finally had to give in and go to sleep mid-episode. BTW, I have a huge crush on Hugh Laurie's character in this show, Dr. Greg House. If you've never seen this show, go rent Season 1! It's hilarious, insightful, maddening, dramatic, and chock full of medical speak.

Unimportant Thing #2: I ended up having a little party in the closet around 4am.

After falling asleep after 1am sometime, I was jerked out of a deep sleep when our town tornado sirens went off at 4am. (Do the math, that's less then three hours of sleep people!) I'm up and out of bed with a speed that rivals my friend Josh in high school (he ran around a 4 minute mile people!). We're waking the boys and the dog and all hurrying into the master closet (which is larger than the entire apartment we lived in for five years previous to this recent move). Our power is out, so this is all done in the dark.

Adrenaline is rushing through my system. I am picturing a torndao bearing down on our house at any moment in the dark...it sounded like armageddon outside with constant, nonstop, shock and awe thunder and lightning. You know how you're supposed to count between the lightening and thunder to see how far apart they are? No counting in between, folks. The storm was on top of us.
It was a fast moving storm though, and within 30 minutes or so, it was gone and we all headed back to bed, which leads us to...

Unimportant Thing #3: Pokemon were in my bed last night, and I almost committed murder on an electrical object this morning.

The kids were scared and wanted to stay in my room. So, MY bed was once again occupied by two kids, a large yellow lab, myself and the hubby. I have proof...see this pillow that took up squatter's rights between me and hubby?

If you've been living under a rock for the last 10 years or so, that's Pikachu and other Pokemon. This is getting close to 5am now. Remember, I fell asleep originally around 1am, woke up at 4am, and now I need to wake up at 6:30am...However, due to the power outage and batteries gone bad, my alarm clock doesn't go off. When I wake up well after 7AM, I feel like taking a hammer and doing this:

Unimportant Thing #4: I injure myself.

As I rush around the house trying to get kids get dressed, I managed to step onto an entire Greek mythology unit on the floor outside the kids' rooms. Monsters, Gods and Heros were battling it out epically through the night, apparently. My foot really, really hurt. We won't mentioned the words I spewed at this point.

Unimportant Thing #5: When in rush, it is inevitable that I will see a lot of things that need to be done and start to feel totally overwhelmed.

I head to the kitchen to make the kids lunches. I avoid looking at my sink, which is full of dishes from the night before. Some nights I can do dishes before bed...some nights I can't. I'm ashamed to show you my sink but here it is:

I finally get the kids in the car and start backing out the driveway, when I realize all my neighbors have their trash and recycling bins out on the street. Oh, dagnabit. It's trash day! I have to run back in the garage to bring out our bins. We're starting to run even more behind!

Unimportant Thing #6: Annie is desperate to go with me in the morning to drop off the boys at school, and she likes to surprise me.

When Annie, our sweet, sweet lab, sees us putting on shoes and jackets, she knows a car ride is in the works. She starts following us around, giving us the big, sad puppy eyes. If we use the word "GO" she goes wild! She starts whining and jumping around and running through the house. I can't say no to that, so I get her leash, which has her even more excited, because now she knows she's scored a ride in the car, one of her favorite things. Here's the leash that leads to her excitement:

and here's the surprise I found when I returned home to do dishes and clean up menacing Greek figures on the floor. Annie threw up next to her bed. Lovely. Guess who will be cleaning this up after she does dishes?

So, there you have it. My six unimportant things with a twist (in story-form, from my morning). I've just completed my first MEME. Who should I tag? I bet anyone I tag has probably done this before, so I apologize in advance. And, if you don't end up completing this meme, it won't hurt my feelings (although, this is my first one ever and my first tagging ever, so no pressure, guys!)

I TAG:

1. Tearese, with the blog Trees with Leaves, has some cute kids, really knows how to draw and isn't your average shoe nut, but has some really colorful footwear!

2. Nancy, at the blog Losing Our Shirts, Keeping the Farm, lives on a pre-civil war farm, raises Icelandic sheep and is currently running a sheep maternity ward in anticipation of "Lamb-a-palooza" and suffering from "sheep apnea."

3. Andrea, with Miles Away, has five kids, lives in Germany, and is surrounded by houses with lace-wanna be curtains.

4. Kat, at Sunshine and Lemonade, is away on a cruise right now, but she teaches Latin (one of my favorite subjects), has an amazing backyard with woods and a creek, reads voraciously and didn't realize that getting married meant softball playing on request.

5. Susan, with Short on Words, has three boys, lives in a beautiful part of the country, is a really cheap date and an incredible photographer. I lust after her photos.

6. Jeff, at A Word in Edgewise, torments cats by making loud noises at them, mumbles when he's angry, uses every pan in the house when he cooks, and has a wicked sense of humor.
